Welcome, welcome! This week we have more OWLS and two posts from my own reading. I came across two really good, different posts this week. We’ve got one from Seasonal Prattle that I found very helpful and a very fun one from Derek too. As for OWLS we continue the July blog tour with Lyn, Gigi, and Kat!
What You Need to Know to Make a Living Aniblogging Right Now
Seasonal Prattle has a post on making money from your aniblog. To be honest, doing this as a full-time job isn’t a thought I’ve entertained. I had a fleeting “maybe I’ll become a writer” when I found out I was losing my job but I don’t believe my writing skills are at that level. However, this article mentions affiliate marketing and advertising (something I have thought of) alongside Patreon. For those of you that currently have a Patreon site, or even if you’re entertaining the thought, I think Seasonal Prattle has identified some of the problems with the rewards people generally tend to offer. Have a look and see what you think, maybe it’ll inspire you to do something new.
Anime Avengers Assemble!
I stumbled across Derek’s post on creating a fantasy team of anime characters to call upon. It was a response piece to Karandi’s Tuesday’s Top 5 and I love the concept and character’s chosen. You should definitely stop by and give it a read – keep a look out for the italicised comments too for that little bit more detail!
July – Mirrors
“When we look in the mirror, what do we see? Do we see ourselves or someone we don’t want to be? For this month’s theme, we will be exploring some of our favorite anime and other pop culture media that redefine individual beauty—inside and out.”
Catcalling & Physical Beauty In Kiss Him, Not Me
Lyn gave us a very strong post on catcalling. She looked at how this affected the protagonist in Kiss Him, Not Me as well as her own personal experience. Catcalling is never a comfortable sensation to experience and most women will experience at one point in their lives. There’s also an interesting titbit about a man experiencing catcalling too. Give it a read!
Reflections on Peach Girl
Gigi takes a look at Peach Girl in her OWLS video! You need to watch it because Gigi touches on how the judgement Momo has to deal with. This sort of shaming is one of those things that unfortunately a lot of girls has to deal with so go have a watch for a very strong message!
You, The Mirror, and Haruhi Fujioka
Kat has a lovely post on self confidence and how much Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club had. There’s no spoilers in this post beyond the first episode, but Kat points out how comfortable Haruhi is and how rare that is for anyone in High School. I know I sure didn’t have Haruhi’s confidence so go have a look and see if you had Haruhi’s confidence!
