Chaos;Child – It’s Over. Finally.

Review

I- I don’t know where to begin with this review. I really don’t. So I guess we’ll take a chronological look at the episode and try to piece it out.

I usually try to keep these reviews spoiler-free but there will be spoilers in this review.

When it started I actually had to rewind the first couple of seconds because I was very, very sure I’d missed something. I hadn’t, but it felt like it. Then it felt like I was watching the wrong episode because I was very sure we’d seen this bit before. Which I think was the point. Then it just ended Serika’s bit and we were back with Takuru. Kind of. He was under the effects of the drug from Big Bad Guy last episode. Apparently there was some sort of experiment where they deprived people from sensory input and just waited to see how long until they broke, that’s the experiment being done on Takuru. Except because he had an imaginary friend as a child, that helped him through it?

Either way, Serika was there and somehow they countered the effects of the drug and created a delusion where he stopped the doctor’s mind control? But then his delusion broke so he had to fight again and he really sucks at fighting so his foot was crushed and his shoulder sliced because he killed the doctor. At least, I think that’s what happened. I still don’t know how those weapons work.

Then he goes over to Serika, like you do when your friend’s dead, except she’s not dead. Maybe she never was? I don’t get this bit at all, but then she fights him and when their swords meet he learns the whole truth. Turns out the thing that he wished for when he created Serika was for her to help him do something amazing. I guess she interpreted it some really whacked up way and felt the need to create a murder-mystery for him but, you know, actually killed everyone. Because that’s what you do when you want to help someone solve a crime.

The doctor was still a crazy person too and used his mind control power as experiments for all the victims. Just Serika was the mastermind that had forced the doctor to mind control her to believe he was the mastermind. It was all very strange.

Then, after this reveal, was a really nice moment – the best of the entire episode – where Takuru came to a conclusion that the bond between them needed to be severed. Or something like that.

I don’t know what he did. I thought he was going to kill himself, and he definitely didn’t kill her, but he did something that would cause Serika to lose her mind reading powers and become a “normal” girl. Meanwhile he ended up in a hospital bed looking 30 years older.

Who did the police arrest as the killer? Serika, the doctor, Takuru? I’ve not a clue.

I still don’t know how they summoned those weapons.

In the end, this episode was okay. It wasn’t terrible but it certainly wasn’t “average”. I watched it all the way through but most definitely because of the time I’d already invested in the series. I’ll take a couple of days and write up an overall series review next week with all the episode scores aggregated but this episode definitely feels like a let down to the promise the beginning of the series had.
